Help Us Clear the Shelters in San Marcos!
Calling all animal lovers, would-be pet owners, and our community-minded friends!

San Marcos Regional Animal Shelter is dear to our hearts and holding a vendor extravaganza on August 26 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. While adoption fees are $10 for the entire month of August, all fees will be waived this Saturday!
If you've been thinking about adding a new little furry friend to your family, this is the day to visit with the different adoptable pets and have some fun interactions to find your new best friend.

Since we moved to San Marcos, I have been looking for a way to help the community we have grown to love. One thing I have noticed about Hays County is that people love their pets and tend to bring them everywhere. There are dogs on the river, cats walking on leashes down the trails, and pet-friendly cafes everywhere.
Yet there's still a record number of animals filling Hays County's one shelter. The workers try to socialize and exercise the animals as much as they can, but with overcrowding, they spend most of their time just cleaning the kennels and feeding the animals. Many are in pop-up crates stacked in any available space around the shelter and the rest are out in the heat. And it has been very hot lately.
Our hope is that the Clear the Shelters Party will promote local pet-friendly vendors, inspire new volunteers, and (most importantly) find homes for as many of the dogs and cats in the overcrowded shelter as possible.
For the entire day of Saturday, August 26 all spay/ nurture, vaccination, and microchipping fees will be waived for the day so there has never been an easier to adopt! Even if you're not able to adopt, bring friends and family who might be.
Check out some of their adoptable pets right now!
If you are like me and can't adopt right now due to the temperament of your current pets, there are lots of ways you can support the tireless work of the shelter employees and volunteers:
Try volunteering with the shelter!
After a short training course, you'll be able to go in any time you have a spare hour or two to wash laundry, clean food bowls, take photos of the adoptable dogs and cats for their Instagram account, or give some of the dogs a chance to stretch their legs and play in a play yard.
Foster families are an important part of getting shelter animals ready for a forever home. Animals learn to acclimate to a home environment and fosters can give prospective owners information about how the animals interact with other pets and family members. Adoptable animals who have been patiently waiting for a forever home get a chance to decompress from shelter life for a time while in foster care.

Give the gift of a Dog's Day Out!
Shelter dogs can always use a few hour's break from the shelter. It's a fun way to spend an afternoon at the park or getting a "pup cup" at a dog-friendly cafe around town. This is a great opportunity for the dogs to relax, meet new people, and possibly find a new home while out and about.
Donate to the shelter! This is a great option if you don't live in town but would like to help our community. The Animal Shelter makes it easy to contribute with a donation page, a list of supplies, and a link to their Amazon wishlist. It doesn't get any easier than this.
We know a lot of our newsletter recipients live in Southeast Texas. Feel free to use this Amazon wishlist or any of these ideas for your local shelter.
In Central Texas but can't make it this Saturday? That's okay. Adoption fees will only be $10 for the rest of the month of August.
If you need more information or would like to explore property in Central Texas, please give us a call.
Let us know if we can help you,
Adam and Michelle
