Oktoberfest in Central TX

Though Oktoberfest has come and gone (In Germany and in Fredericksburg) the German folk festivities are still going strong in other parts of Central Texas.
Wurstfest is Famous!

Wurstfest in New Braunfels has grown in popularity to the point where it has been featured on Good Morning America and is ranked among the top ten Oktoberfest celebrations in the US by USA Today! It’s also a ten day event, and so easy to work into your schedule. This year it runs from Nov 5- 14 at Landa park in New Braunfels.
There is, of course, a lot of beer- domestic, imported, and Texas brewed, but this is still a family-friendly festival with carnival rides, folk dancing, games (not just the one where you try to hold your stein the longest), a marketplace, and not a little LARPing.
Some Not-So-Traditional Music

I (Michelle here) am most looking forward to the music. Lots of different takes on traditional Bavarian music from a big lineup of Polka bands... and yes they will play The Chicken Dance. Check the schedule here for the Alex Meixner band, above.
It may have begun as a way to celebrate the marriage of a crown prince generations ago, but it’s now a way for Texans of German descent to connect with and share their heritage. There is also quite a bit of fundraising for good causes during the festivities.

Other Oktoberfest Celebrations in Texas
Can’t make it this year? Here’s a 90s-themed polka set from the Chardon Polka band, who will be playing Wurstfest. Have a listen while you serve up a dinner of sausage and sauerkraut.
Here’s a list of other Oktoberfest celebrations across the state.
