Wimberley's Outdoor Eateries

by Adam Carter

The last in our series of places to eat outdoors is focused on Wimberley. It is also officially Fall here so you've probably already started asking for a table outside when you are out.

An Old Fashioned Cafe

Wimberley Cafe, all alight, at sunset.
The Wimberley Cafe is tucked into a group of vintage shops, boutiques, wineries, and coffee bars in downtown Wimberley.  We just happened to pull into the parking, hungry after showing homes all day. That night there was a musician playing guitar and singing old country. It was a nice way to unwind with Chicken Fried Steak and Brussel Sprouts.

We've since returned a few times to have the Spicy Santa Fe Tuna Melt and the Sweet Hot Mess Burgers on the patio, again with a side of Brussels sprouts.

A perfect latte with heart-shaped foam served with biscotti at Sip! on the Square

They have quite a few desserts, but there's also a coffee bar, Sip on the Square, right next door if you like to finish a meal with a jolt of caffeine.

Dog-Friendly dining by the creek

Chill's on the Creek patio dining under live oak trees.

Chill's on the Creek is one we have read about but still have yet to try. It is known for its large deck under live oaks and seating right beside the creek. Their menu has old faves like Build-Your-Own-Burgers and Fried Catfish, but there are also Boudin Balls (which we rarely see since leaving Southeast Texas) with Queso and Mahi Tacos. They also have a full bar and
dog-friendly patio, so no need to feel guilty if you're away from home too long.

Kid-friendly Play & Gourmet Pizza

Community Pizza & Beer Garden in Wimberley, TX

Community Pizza and Beer Garden is a place the whole family could enjoy. They have an expansive outdoor play area for kids and tables all around for everyone else. Yes, there is pizza but the menu has many dishes that aren't typical family fare. We enjoyed delicious Deviled Eggs as an appetizer and split a perfect Neapolitan-style pizza straight out of the brick oven. We had the Burrata Mushroom Truffle.

The tiramisu is made in-house and was worth sharing, even though we were truly stuffed.

If we had lived here when our kids were young, this probably would have been a favorite for them.
